Biophony-Acoustic Ecology Course

20th Mehefin 2017 - 29th Mehefin 2017

- Free

If you’re an experienced musician, here’s an amazing opportunity to work on an exciting participatory project that brings together ecology, biodiversity awareness and music composition. The course is exciting and free to the lucky musicians!

‘Biophony’ was launched by Community Music Wales in the days leading up to Wales Nature Week. It is funded by Arts Council Wales and follows on from last year’s research and development.

The course takes place on 20, 21, 27 and  28 June at New Quay Memorial Hall and Small World Theatre, Cardigan. The Music Composition Workshops will take place in Cardigan Bay leaving Newquay harbour – home to the UK’s biggest pod of dolphins. They will include a talk by Seawatch Foundation and an exploration boat trip around the Bay where the main species include Bottlenose dolphins, Harbour porpoises and Atlantic grey seals.

‘Biophony’ will create new pieces of music by working with residents local in distinct topographical areas across Wales including: rivers, sea, coast, meadows and woodlands. You will work towards writing new music based on data collection and inspiration from the local environment. The final day will culminate in a performance and/or recording.

It’s coming up very soon so to book a place please contact admin@communitymusicwales.org.uk or ring 02920 838060.
