For nearly 1000 years, Vezelay, a remote medieval hilltop town in west Burgundy in France, has been a pivotal staging point for thousands of pilgrims travelling to Santiago de Compostella.
Christopher will explore with us how the exceptional Romanesque architecture in Vezelay’s 12th century Basilica, through the play of light, acoustics and use of symbolism in its sculpture,
tells us stories in the language of the heart, and points to the universal truths that underlie creation. He has lived and worked for many years in Vezelay, and with his small dedicated team has been enabling visitors to the Basilica to experience the beauty that broadens their field of perception. Visitors report a real sense of the vision and testimony of the builders.
Christopher will share these experiences with us and also provide an evocation of the figure of Mary Magdalene (one of her relics is reputed to be there). He is making a detour from Oxford to West Wales on his way home to France, especially to share this work. Please do join us.
