In a series of structured exercises participants will be encouraged to explore voice, dynamic, lyricism and tempo-rhythm – letting the words rise up from the page. Whether writing dialogue, spoken word, or poetry, you will explore the power of language working technically and from the imagination.
Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch
15:30 – 17:30
Translating sounds, smells and pictures into poems.
Translation isn’t only between different languages. In this hands-on workshop we’ll be translating smells, sounds and images into texts through playful and inventive techniques. Using an arts and crafts approach to uncover new writing, this workshop will offer insight to the process of designing a poem.

An evening of readings and short performances. Kaite and Samantha will present excerpts from their publications – acclaimed plays, dramatic monologues and prize-winning poetry in a celebration of the written and spoken word.
The evening will begin with 15 minutes of Open Mic from 2/3 writers on a first come first served basis. If you’d like to book a slot, please contact 01239 615 952.
Biogs
Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch is a poet who divides her time between Paris and New Quay. Her work has been shortlisted for the Michael Marks Award (2014), the Roland Mathias Prize (2013) and Wales Book of the Year (2009). She has taught at Oxford University and at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David University where she has just completed a PhD in Creative Writing.
Kaite O’Reilly is a multi-award-winning writer and playwright. Prizes include The Ted Hughes Award for new works in poetry for ‘Persians’ (National Theatre Wales), best play of the year from Theatre-Wales, Manchester theatre awards and Peggy Ramsay Award. She is currently shortlisted for the international James Tait Black Prize for Drama. Her plays are published by Faber and Oberon and translated/produced in thirteen countries worldwide
